Times tables practice for your whole class

The Great Times Tables Race UK is a short daily times tables race that works out what each child already knows and practises the rest.

What it is

A few minutes a day, in a web browser

Short races

A child answers a run of multiplication and division facts, typed on a keyboard or tapped on a number pad. A race is a few minutes long, so it fits the start of a lesson.

Their own clock

Every child races their own personal best. There is no class leaderboard and no child is compared with another.

Belts to earn

Children work up through coloured belts as they learn more of the tables, with a certificate for each. A belt, once earned, is never taken away.

Why it is different

It listens for hesitation, not only mistakes

Recall, not working out

A child can get 7 × 8 right by counting up in sevens. The race notices how long each answer took, so a fact that is right but slow is still practised until it comes quickly.

Each child's own set of facts

The first race finds out what a child already knows. After that, each race is built for that child: the facts they are still learning, and the ones due for another look.

A wrong answer is a pit stop

A mistake shows the right answer for a moment and the fact comes back later in the race. No red pen, and the race carries on.

A class dashboard about effort, not speed

Who has practised this week

Your class at a glance: who has raced, on which days, and who has not raced recently. The dashboard never shows a child's time.

No pupil email addresses

Children sign in with a username you choose and a short word. They do not need an email address or a password.

Groups and race lengths

Put children in groups and set how long each group's races are. If a child locks themselves out, you can let them back in from the dashboard.
